In the diamond tool industry, most diamond segments are volumetrically pressed as cutting materials for stone-processing tools. In this process, a mold is filled with the same amount of granulate powder in cold presses. The relatively coarse-grained granulate can result in different volumes with the same mass. In the development of a new machine, the self-optimizing position control of the lower punch was intended to achieve a constant segment weight. An additional challenge for the hydraulic solution to be developed was the extremely short cycle times of the machine.
The solution:
The Bott system features an upper and a lower hydraulic cylinder, as well as a cast hydraulic manifold with integrated high-performance servo valves and a position measuring system. This applies a pressing force of 180 kN in a controlled manner. The position of the lower punch is controlled with precision in the range of hundredths of a millimeter. Because of the tight space constraints, the control, directional, and check valves were integrated into an extremely compact control manifold.
The smart advantage:
The customized and clever hydraulic solution gives the customer a technical advantage over his competition. Bott was able to tackle these complex production requirements only through its state-of-the-art, in-house machinery.
